Recovery of infectious SARS-CoV-2 from the surfaces. Looks like we are back to square one.
] We had many papers in the last few months which had reassured us about the lack of virus persistence on the surfaces.
] A new study (7 Oct 2020) says infectious SARS-CoV-2 can be recovered from non-porous surfaces for at least 28 days at ambient temperature and humidity (20°C and 50% RH).
] If you remember, prior to SARS-CoV-2 being declared a pandemic, China had started decontamination of its paper currency, suggesting transmission via paper banknotes was possible.
] We also had surface/ fomite spread suggested as a potential route of transmission by CDC & World Health Organization (WHO)
] It’s better to err on the side of caution and play safe with ‘surface spread’
